Philips family from Devon
« on: Saturday 14 April 07 08:48 BST (UK) »

I am trying to trace the roots of Thomas Philips (Phillips, Philipps etc.) who married Eliza Dyer in Buckerell, Devon on 29 April 1847. Eliza was christened there in 1817 with parents John and Elizabeth.
Thomas was living in Upottery at the time of the wedding and his father is shown as Thomas Philipps.
Thomas and Eliza moved to London where he worked as a farrier. The question is where was he born?

Hi Phil - would they have been in the London area by 1851 - or later ?

Having problems finding them in 1851 to see where Thomas states his PoB to be ...

Thanks for looking Newfy. I'm doing this for a friend who has hit a brick wall. The information I have is that  they 'had their first son Eli in Tottenham and are living in the Caledonian Road in the 1851 census.'
so I guess that won't help. Thomas junior died 7/9/1872 and his wife in June 1883 so the 1861 and 1871 census returns should reveal something.

Thank you very much Newfy.
Please excuse the delay in replying but i'm doing night shifts at present.
Can I ask one more favour?
Is there any sign of Thomas (b.abt.1818) and his Dad in the 1841 census?

Cheers,
Phil

I did have a quick look - I believe I can see Thomas alone in the 1841, but not linked to the areas in question .....
