Hi
Can someone please help me out.
Mary Jane Tate from Penrith married my  Great Grandad John Tallon and lived at 5 MillBrow Kirkby Lonsdale according to the 01 census.

can anyone find any reference to her before that eg Marriage  date etc so i could trace her family in Penrith.

John was born in 1861c in Whittington. and was a tailor.

According to the 1901 - Mary Jane was b 1863 Penrith but I can't find an 1871 entry for a birthplace of Penrith

Here's their marriage from Lancashire BMD

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1889

TALLON John TATE Mary Jane Lunesdale, Whittington, St Michael The Archangel Preston CE16/1/141

There are 2 possible 1871 entries - one b 1863 Longtown parents George & Elizabeth

The other was b Workington 1865 and in 1871 her mother Mary is a widow.  I looked them up in 1861 and father was John

The FreeBMD site had a marriage as follows :-

June Quarter 1889 Lunedale Lancashire
TALLON John and TATE Mary Jane
8e 1154

They also appear on the 1891 Census in Kirkby Lonsdale with two children, Elizabeth Ellen aged 1 and Polly aged 5.  

John is also on the 1871 and 1881 census if you would like details.

In 1881 Mary Jane is in service in Penrith but can't place her in 1871 yet.

Looking up John Tallon in free bmd gets their marriage in Jun qtr 1889 as Lunesdale 8e 1154. There is also a marriage for a John Tallon in  Jun 1884  to Fanny Elizabeth Shaw  Lunesdale 8e 1093. Do you know if he was widowed ?

Karen thanks ive got all his details its just Mary Jane im tracing now.Its interesting about been in service do you have an address?

Carole W Longtown is near Carlisle a bit further north than Penrith ..Interesting though.
