4 generations of Prestidge, 1835-1985

I am stuck with a couple of my Barnett ancestors. First one.
William Barnett b.abt 1885, Betchworth, Surrey. Moved to Bedfordshire, had one son, born in Pavenham, Beds, in 1915, Rainald, (my grandfather) and then moved to Dorset, and second son, Derrick J, b.1921 in Bridport, Dorset.
From family telling, William lived his latter life in Dorset, working for a man named Capper Pass, and he worked as head gardener in a Manor House, in Wootton Fitzpaine. There are strange stories about his death, and to my frustration, I cannot find his death reg anywhere, nor that of his wife, Lucy Frances, nor of his son, Derrick. I have found the death reg of Derrick's wife, Dorothy, she died in 2001, in Yeovil, Somerset.
Can anyone help me?

Hi again,
Derrick b.1921 could still be living; do you have a copy of his wife's death cert?
Is she described as "widow of....."?
Did William have another name that might have been used for his death registration? My gt.uncle was known as Frank but his full name was Peter Frank; he took some finding!

Cathy, you are brilliant. The date would fit anyway. what does AMJ stand for?
And how do I order this death cert?
Thank you so much, and I would say that is my Lucy Barnett as well. She would be my g.grandmother. Sad that she died so early though. How would I go about finding her death reg?

I did think that Derrick may still be living. My grandfather and him were estranged I believe, and my grandfather passed away in 1976. I don't think William had another name, as in all the records (census's) I have found he is down as William.
Any suggestions how I would go about finding out if Derrick is still alive? Apart from going through the phone book!?

Hi,
He might be ex-directory! Did he have any children? If his wife's death cert shows her as "wife of" then you know he was alive at that time and could search the death registrations from then.
To answer your earlier question; AMJ is the quarter when the death was registered (April/May/June). You can order certificates on line at www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content ; cost £7 (if you are in UK) and take about 1 week to arrive. Cathy has given you the references needed.

I am not sure if he had any children...I have 2 opposite accounts. My father seems to think he had 2 daughters, but I couldn't find their birth regs. He spent some time in Egypt...he's a very interesting man, and if I find him alive, it would be fantastic!
I am ordering his father's death cert now...and I have found his mother's death reg now too...(obviously not def, until I get the certs!, but I live in hope!)
His wife Dorothy, is registered as dying in Yeovil, Somerset, in 2001 which was where they were living as far as I know.
Thanks for your input...always helps to have these nudges...it can really get you down this research eh?

oh, yes, I have one of those! William's mother-in-law, my GGGrandmother, was possibly illegitimate...I can't find HER mother anywhere! That drove me half dememnted! I'm going down the line now, to see if I can find any living relatives that may have some info on her...and finding all sorts of skeletons along the way! heehheee
a Russian John eh? methinks a trip to Russia???hehehe

Oh, I have found so much...
I have connected with the family that used to own the Manor where William worked, and that Lucy F was buried in the same place as this family. I am so grateful for these kickstarts and suggestions...
I have ordered the 2 death reg's as well. Fingers X'd. Will let you know...
