One-Half of Dancing-Duo Waltzing Through 'TARDIS'.
|
Dear Fellow Rootschatters,
I am seeking information on my aunt, Jessica DYER (b.1906), a spinster who passed away in August, 1991, aged 85 years in Thanet, Kent.
I know she lived in Ruskin Avenue, Manor Park, East Ham at least until 1951 when her mother died.
As far as I know she had siblings named Dorothy (b.1895) (my mother who came to Australia in the 1920s), Lavinia (b.1903), Winifred, Edward, Louisa (b.1900), Charles (b.1888/9) and Elizabeth (b.1886/7). Not sure of dates for Winifred and Edward).
I have only recently found out this information and would appreciate any help that anyone can give me in finding my long lost relatives.
Brian H.

Jessica's death registration placing her birth in the first quarter of 1906
Jessica Dyer 17 Jan 1906 Aug 1991 85 Thanet Kent
and her birth registration in London
Births Mar 1906 Dyer Jessica Islington 1b 167
Was your mother younger or older than Jessica. Would her birth have been before the 1901 census?
Regards
Valda

Hi Brian
I believe Thanet District Council to be rather courteous in supplying details of burials and cremations from their burial/grave/cremation registers and possibly even grave purchase registers if applicable:

Hello Fellow RootsChatters,
Thank you so far to Romilly, Valda & Casalguidi for your responses.
Casalguidi I will certainly give the Thanet District Council a go regarding burials etc.
I have Dyers in London in my family, but mine came to London from East Grinstead, Sussex. Do you know where yours originated from?
Hello Romilly, Regarding the origins of the DYERs (prior to London - 1860), nothing definite. We are not sure where they originated from.
......Was your mother younger or older than Jessica. Would her birth have been before the 1901 census?
Hello Valda, In answer to your question, my mother Dorothy was (b.1895) in London. Dorothy's mother, Louisa married Charles DYER in 1899.
Elizabeth and Charles, were the Issue of Charles from a former marriage.
* PLEASE NOTE - Original Posting has been revised to include known dates. Thanking You, Brian H.

Hello Newfy,
Thank you for your interest in my Topic. In answer to your question, yes I am looking for the descendants of my mother's siblings (both step & half).
We will trace further back, when we have filled in the gaps.
........Looks like Charles Dyer's 1st wife was Kate Jessie E Brown.. Marriages Sep 1886 BROWN Kate Jessie E Pancras Vol 1b Page 283 DYER Charles do do do
Yes I have come across this marriage previously, thinking that this might be our Charles DYER. Also found a birth for an Elizabeth Kate DYER (b1887) St. Giles, we assume this would be their daughter.
Previously we have found the family on the 1901 Census. We are currently awaiting the 1911 Census.
Thanks for your help, Brian H.

Hello Valda,
Thank you very much for your thorough and informative reply. Very interesting about the 1891 Census, this confirms what we came across in the 1901 Census.
.........1891 census RG12 117 folio 112 Robert Street Pancras Charles Dyer 28 Battersea, London, Head Married Upholster's Porter Kate J Dyer 22 St Pancras, London, Wife Married Elizabeth K Dyer 4 St Giles, London, Daughter Charles Dyer 2 Wood Green, London, Son Clara Dyer 6mths St Pancras, London, Daughter Next household same address Charles Dyer 49 Wandsworth, Surrey, Head Married Upholsters Clerk Elizabeth Dyer 49 Truro, Cornwall, Wife Married Shopkeeper Agnes G Dyer 24 Battersea, Surrey, Daughter Upholsters ? maker Ernest G Dyer 19 Battersea Surrey, Son French polisher Walter A Dyer 14 St Pancras Middlesex, Son Upholsters Apprentice Thomas J Dyer 12 St Pancras Middlesex, Son Sidney L Dyer 5 St Pancras Middlesex, Son
Births Dec 1890 Dyer Clara Pancras 1b 10 Deaths Mar 1892 Dyer Clara 1 Pancras 1b 53
Births Dec 1888 DYER Charles Edmonton 3a 325
Births Mar 1887 DYER Elizabeth Kate St. Giles 1b 627
Deaths Mar 1898 Dyer Kate Jessie E 29 Pancras 1b 3.......
I am very excited about the information you have given me.
It is nearly 11.00pm here in Australia, I will print it out and sleep on it.
I will be in touch, thanking you, Brian H.

Much trickier to spot Louisa Lavinia Slade on the 1881 census
Births Mar 1874 Slade Louisa Lavinia St Giles 1b 575
She was a servant on the 1891 census. You might need her birth certificate and or her marriage certificate to go further. It might be interesting to know what the initial D stood for when she married - perhaps another surname?
I would check a website like GenesReunited to see whether anyone is expressing an interest in your mother's C20th/late C19th half siblings. As far as I can see she didn't have any step siblings unless Louisa or Charles married again, to someone with children of their own.
Regards
Valda

My understanding from a PM that this is Louisa and her grandparents on the 1881 census.
RG11 327 folio 48 29 Dudley Street St Giles in the Fields Joseph J. Slade 52 Head London Married Bootmaker Caroline S. Slade 53 Wife London Married Lucia L. Slade 7 London Granddaughter
1871 census RG10 8 Great Earl Street St Giles in the Fields Joseph Slade 50 London, Middlesex Head Married Shoemaker Sarah Slade 48 London, Middlesex Wife Married Tailoress Caroline Slade 13 London, Middlesex Daughter
1861 census RG9 173 folio 40 29 Dudley Street St Giles in the Fields Joseph Slade 40 St Martins Head Married Butcher Caroline Slade 36 St Martins Wife Married Tailoress Caroline Slade 3 St Giles Daughter
1851 census HO107 1509 folio 2?? 72 Dudley Street St Giles in the Fields Joseph Slade 29 St Martin's Middlesex Head Married Bootcloser Sarah Slade 27 Wife Grays Inn? Middlesex Married Tailoress William Slade 8?? Son St Giles Middlesex

Possible marriage - but it would have to be an error on the marriage certificate or GRO index
Marriages Dec 1846 Slade Joseph St Giles & 1 67 a possible spouse Jewell Catherine Sarah St Giles 1 67
Caroline's birth certificate would confirm her mother's maiden name.
Births Sep 1857 Slade Caroline St. Giles 1b 387

JOSEPH SLADE Christening: 11 FEB 1822 Saint Martin In The Fields, Westminster, London Father: JOHN SLADE Mother: MARY
MARY ANN SLADE Christening: 18 DEC 1814 Saint Martin In The Fields, Westminster, London Death: 24 MAY 1816 Father: JOHN SLADE Mother: MARY
CHARLES SLADE Christening: 05 MAY 1817 Saint Martin In The Fields, Westminster, London Father: JOHN SLADE Mother: MARY
Joseph's father's name can be confirmed from his marriage certificate when you can obtain the one you are sure of to establish whether this is Joseph's baptism. His father's occupation would be on the baptism record.
