Louis GURD

Seeking to confirm details of the case of Louis Gurd (known also as Hamilton) who, jilted by his sweetheart, Florence Adams, shot dead her uncle and an arresting officer, Sgt. Molden, and was then hanged on July 16th 1892.
I'd like references to newspaper reports - title of newspaper, date of issue and page numbers - if possible, especially reference to the execution itself.

I have just searched the index there is no reference to Louis GURD, but the names John GURD, John HAMILTON and Florence ADAMS all appear for 1892, with references to Melksham and the Lunatic Asylum.
I think is is too much to be a coincidence, suggest you order one of the reports.

Found on another site.

1892 July 26th: John GURD (29) Devizes Gurd was engaged to Miss Florence Adams and was looking forward to getting married. They had sorted out most of the arrangements and had the banns read out in the local church. On 19 April, Florence told him she wanted to call the wedding off but could give him no satisfactory explanation. Gurd suspected that her uncle Henry Richards was behind the break up and decided to confront him. During the ensuing argument he shot Richards then fled. The local police started a manhunt for the missing gunman, and on 2 June he was accosted by two officers, Superintendent Perret and Sergeant Moulden. In a desperate attempt to avoid capture, he fired two shots at the pursuing officers, hitting Sergeant Moulden, who later died from his injuries in hospital. Gurd was finally arrested, and after his trial at Wiltshire Assizes, he was sentenced to death. He was hanged by Billington. At the inquest held after the execution, it was claimed that the drop had failed to break his neck which had very strong muscles.
Google and Goolge again, you never know what you may miss if you don't.

Thanks, Jebber - but I did insist that I wanted newspaper references...I already have an outline history of the case.

Thanks again, Jedder. I'm sorry that I wasn't really clear enough in mly initial enquiry...I meant LOCAL newspapers...am already on the trail of North Wilts Herald, for instance. My apologies for the confusion. Salisbury Times? Sherborne Express?
Regards,
