Patrick Fagan - father of Edward b1863
« on: Friday 13 April 07 23:44 BST (UK) »

I'm trying to find information about Patrick Fagan, possibly from Rathfriland in County Down.  He was the father of Edward Fagan who moved to Workington.  Patrick had died by 1882 I don't know if he ever came over to England with his son.  That is all I know any possible leads would be helpful

Edward is not on the 1881 census so must have only come to England after 1881.  If his father was deceased in 1882 (?marriage cert) it's unlikely he came to England with Edward

There is nothing on the IGI or BVRI and civil registration did not start in Ireland until 1864

Yes, it was a marriage certificate which told us that he was deceased.  Edward got married 1882.  I haven't been able to find them in England on 1881 census and I'm struggling to know where to look to find information about someone in Ireland.  We think they came from County Down but that is only a possibility.  If you have any ideas where I could look on line to get any info it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Hi

Irish research is notoriously difficult as no census info exists for that period and only parish records for births and marriages pre-1864.

As there a a number of Patrick Fagan's, you would be looking to find one with a son Edward b around 1863 and you would only be able to do that between 1863-1882

Have a look at this website

I went to Workington a couple of weeks ago, didn't get much done but I did find another Patrick Fagan who was married to a Roseann Brannigan.  They baptised children in the same church that Edward was buried in Holy Name and St Michael (Star of the Sea)  However, I found his parents and they don't tally which was  a shame.  They were a Bernard Fegan and Sarah McLendin.  However, there may be a connetion I just don't know.  They were married July 1887 Catholic Church Drumgath, Patrick born Nov 1869 Rathfriland.  May be a red herring.  Small pieces of info I know ....

Will keep you informed of anything I find out
