I've hit somewhat of a brickwall with John WATKIN and hope someone can do a parish record lookup for me.
I've traced him back through the census from Yorkshire to Staffordshire, and still all I know about his origins is his age and place of birth.
He is consistently 40, 50, 60 & 70 in the 1841/51/61/71 censuses, so I'm fairly sure he was born in 1800 or early 1801. The 1851/61 censuses give his place of birth as New Town, Montgomeryshire so that is a likely birthplace, though given he was in Yorkshire for these censuses, it may be approximate.
His wife was born in Oswestry in Shropshire, so some time before he appears in Bilston, Staffordshire in 1841 he may also have lived in Shropshire.
