There is an index for burials in this cemetary. I don't think it is complete but could be useful

In fact, during a discussion about the glass blowing industry in the Shoreditch area on the London mail list, it was interesting how some of the folks connected with glassblowing can be found at Abney Park.

To be young is to be as one of the immortals

Dave, Thanks for that direct link to be able to search family names straight away at Abney Park. As a result I've discovered 9 members of my KERSHAW family buried there, and am hoping to perhaps uncover a gravestone or two. My 4-times-gt-grandfather John KERSHAW, who was at the opening in 1840 as the Dissenting Minister, was buried there 15 years later, along with his third wife, two of his sons, two of his grandsons (plus their wives), and one of his gt-grandsons. Hope they get their grid references correct in the on-site office when I visit Stoke Newington next Tuesday, hopefully. keith

Just an update to say that even if you go there in person you get charged £8 if you want a grave identified - this is actually well worth it, as it would probably be impossible to find the one you were looking for. It can also turn up unexpected family connections, as all the people buried in that grave come up on their computer. I really like this place, all sorts of enthusiastic volunteers, and when I was there two days ago there was a stone mason teaching people his particular skills. He also told me he'd look at one of my KERSHAW stones that a neighbouring tree has now split into three pieces with a view to possibly re-assembling it - for a donation towards the Trust. The only downside to the place is that owners take their dogs in there without restriction as a public canine toilet... keith
