A Birds Eye View
« on: Saturday 14 April 07 19:44 BST (UK) »

Have you visited :
www.local.live.com
This is Microsofts answer to Google Earth - only better !
If you view in "Birds Eye View" you get such a clear picture. Use the compass to turn N, E, S & W.
It is great for looking up places where ancestors once lived, that you cannot get to.
Have fun.

Very interesting Smiley

I'm wondering about the date of the images - I reckon at least 5 years ago Undecided

No, my area was done about spring/summer 2005. I know this as my car is in the front drive and our roof extension is complete.  Cheesy
They aim to have most of Europe done by the end of this year. I think that most of mainland England is finished now.

Amazing!!!!

....and I can narrow down when the photos were taken.............last Summer.  I only know because we had our patio furniture and umbrella on the lawn while the kitchen was being fitted.  The fitters were using the patio to sort everything out.  You can see the top of the umbrella on our back lawn!!!!  The kitchen was fitted in July 2006.

Maybe some areas have newer photographs.

Just down the road from my house a new hotel and pub was built last June....that's on there too.

Have found my Grt. Grandfathers pub which he moved to in 1896. Plus the Church and cemetry next to it where some of the family were buried.  Grin

Google has slightly newer images, at least in my area, probably from about 2-3 years ago.  Microsoft's ones are older but I'm not sure how much.

Microsoft are still filming. Not all areas of the UK are completed  yet. Some are very recent, just depends on where you live. They have finished the more populated areas first.

Had a look at different places in UK, US & Europe that I know but images were much fuzzier than GoogleEarth- for Ireland could not make out towns let alone houses. Road names on map bit is good though.

There was a Tesco store near us (Beccles, Suffolk, UK ) opened in Sept 2005 which doesn't feature. The original buildings are all on site, no signs of clearance work, so the image for here was taken  at least 30 months ago.

There's some better quality images on here than on google earth, but some are still fuzzy.

But still a good find!

Brilliant! I've had great fun playing around with this! As the debate rages over "when" the photography was done, I can see the shed we had put up last September....!
