Brilliant! I've had great fun playing around with this! As the debate rages over "when" the photography was done, I can see the shed we had put up last September....!

....in fact, I can see the fence we renewed which was put up around Christmas 2006.....!

Have now found a row of tythe cottages in Derbyshire where some of my ancestors lived. The pictures of them are amazing. It is so nice to see what they looked like.  Smiley

It must take years to cover the world in Birds Eye View. They use a plane with 6 cameras in the base and film in 11 mega pixels, so I've been told. The most filmed countries are USA, Canada, Australia and UK. Areas are being added all the time.  Smiley

Well, the pictures of my house was taken between May 11th and 18th last year.
I'd just taken delivery of a newish car and my old one is still on the drive.
And there's a white blob next to the old car which I am sure is me Roll Eyes Grin

Our bit near Monmouth is about 3 years old ... a new grassy area is shown as the seed just emerging, whereas on Google, its lush and green !  But the detail is good ... son-in-law's motor bike is on the drive !

Its a bit 'Big Brother is watching', isn't it !

My village (in Ireland) is still fuzzy and can't even make out the houses.
Slightly better luck seeing other parts of the world- was able to see cousin's farm in Scotland where we used to go on holidays when my children were small & villages in Germany we visited last summer.

Blackburn is older than summer 2002 as there was an office building on the corner of the road built and open by October that year, which isn't shown on the maps, nor on google either.

Also in Liverpool it's also not very recent either, some work in progress about five years ago too.

But the clarity in both places does seem much better than google.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere, but I see that Google Earth have changed some of their "fuzzy" aerial photos for sharper ones in some countries including the UK. Smiley
The change was mentioned on the news section of my BT homepage yesterday, so I had a look at our area- we were previously on a join between high resolution and fuzzy, but now the whole farm is in reasonable resolution.
The only oddity is that the pics are older than the previous ones, dating from 1999-2000 down here. Huh

Hi

In my area the picture is before 2001 as my dads caravan is on his drive - at his old house before he moved in Jan 01....

So it must depend on which area

I agree with Lemon.

Just searched for where I work on the A24 in West Sussex and it still shows the mushroom company that was demolished in 1999. Our Company moved to what is now just four buildings on the site in October 2000.

Incidently the Company has grown so fast we now occupy three of them.

Hi

I have had another look at this site but in a different area - North Devon. I have looked at Westwood Ho! and although there has been considerable build work of apartments in the last 5 years none of the apartents are shown; just all the buildings that were there and have now been demolished.

Interesting though to see how the village was 5/6 years ago.

I then went back to look at my house and found a big white blob in the garden - it was my friends gazebo, that was put up just for the summer of 1999 - so really last century!!

The new superior oblique images appear to be provided by Ordnance Survey who are the agents for Simmons Aerial Surveys, the UK holder of the rights to the US company Pictometry patented system

The link below is to a list of currently available areas

http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/products/pictometry/pdf/d05401.pdf

If your town is not listed you haven't got the latest images which I believe are no more tha 6 months old. The OS announced the availability on 28th Feb 2007.

The images are outstanding and are by far the best images I have seen for FREE.

I believe the views are similar to what would be seen by flying at an altitude of no more than 500 ft.
