Hi, I was just wondering if anyone is aware of Swift being a traveller surname? My ancestor is from a family I can't track down, was a professor of the violin/musician and there was a boxer in the family. There is supposed to be some Romany in the family, but I'm having trouble finding it! This family seemed the most likely, but there is nothing that says on the census traveller! My Swifts are from Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire. Thanks.

I am aware of a John SWIFT (1811 Clayton, Sussex) son of Esther/Hester SWIFT (c1795 Folkestone Kent?) who later "married" a Jasper/Jesse WOOD. They were travellers who ventured throughout East Sussex and Kent but I know nothing of their origins.
