« on: Sunday 15 April 07 22:07 BST (UK) »

Does any one know if it is possible to find out  from any records who was living at 2 Vernon Terrace, Towcester in 1918?Does this address still exist?
Thanks, Cyndy

Hi Cyndy

My Aunt is a lifelong resident of Towcester and has no knowledge of a Vernon Terrace. There is a Vernon Terrace in Northampton.

Hi Annie, Thanks for your message.Perhaps the family I am looking for were in Northampton before they moved to Towcester. My late mother was fostered by an Adams family in 1918 and I know that I visited them as a child in Towcester [1940`s-1960`s]. The only address I have for them is Vernon Terrace. I do remember visiting a house opposite a field with horses in.Long since built on I should think!Perhaps your mother would know if the alms houses off the main street in Towcester are still there.I remember visiting my foster-grandmother there and recall that a stream ran along at the end of the gardens.
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers, Cyndy

Hi Cyndy

I think the original almshouses were knocked down in the 1970's and rebuilt.

Thanks Annie. What a pity, another link with the past lost for ever. Mind you I do remember my foster grandmother having to kill rats with a hammer!!Brave lady.
Perhaps someone will be able to let me know about 2, Vernon  Terrace in NORTHAMPTON.Is it possible to find out who lived there in 1918?The Adams family I think, mum, dad, three sons and a foster child.
Cheers, Cyndy
