I am attempting to find any information on a George and Catherine AVON who appeared in the 1881 Census at living at the Coastguard Bilding, Tyneham, Dorset (Based on the IGI).
My father-in-law was placed in an orphanage after his mother (Mary HUSSEY) died on Christmas day around 1922 and his father (Joseph AVON) was incapable of looking after him due to wounds suffered in WW1 whilst serving with the Dublin Fusiliers. As a result he has little knowledge of his anscertors. He thinks his parents married in England at the start of the war, 1915?
Inquiries made a number of few years ago revealed his father (Joseph) was born in Waterford, Ireland and his parents were George (Coastguard) and Catherine AVON (McCarthy). I believe it may be the same couple living in Dorset in 1881. Little else is known. My father-in-law is in frail health and I am attempting to gather as much information on any of these people as soon as I can. Any census details or the slightest piece of information pertaining to any these people or relatives would be treasured by him. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. I will also try my luck with ROOTS Ireland.
I cannot see George and Catherine 1891/1901. If they were the parents of Joseph, born Ireland, they perhaps returned to Ireland as a son Joseph is not present in 1881.
There is a Joseph Avon in 1901
