 Dear Kimberley,
We have in our possession a Bible which has the following inscription on the inside cover.
This Bible is the gift of George Christey Sen.
Citizen and Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers.London, England.
To his Dear Children Capt. Allen Christey and his wife
Mrs E. Christey, now residing in Hobart Town, Van Diemens
Land, as a Memorial of his love and respect this 1st July 1851.
My father came into possession of this Bible and passed it to me. We would like it to be returned to its rightful family.
If this is part of your family history we look forward to hearing from you.
regards Clint

Hi Kimberly

If your Allen went direct to Hobart there is probably a shipping record at the Tasmanian archives.
http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/  They do research for a very reasonable fee

Hi Clint & welcome to RootsChat - what an amazing find - it looks very much like the family Kimberley is  researching.

Hi Craizi

The name is CHRISTEY although sometimes incorrectly transcribed CHRISTIE.

Thank you for your interest though.

Hi Kimberly

Be very wary of automatically discounting spelling variations - you may lose alot of family members that way. Well into the mid 1900s & probably later, names were still spelt in varying ways.
