harding ,bristol ? 1841,51 or marriage
« on: Monday 16 April 07 08:38 BST (UK) »

can anyone find a george harding son of john woodman harding born circa 1839 (census varies between 1837-41)

known info
son of john woodman harding - no father named on marriage for george of 1861 but named on 2nd marr in 1896.
on every census 1861-1901 george said he was from bristol.

but i cannot find a suitable george in 1841 and 1851 census for glouc area.

alternatively, can anyone find a marriage of john woodman harding. ? i cannot find a death for this name or anything on IGI.

who likes a mystery?

that was quick!
well sadly no birth cert yet.  i have brought several but not the right ones  Angry

i have only the census for place of birth (and you know what thats like!)  i will def look at the one you have found check out the rest of the family.  the marriage cert of 1896 states that his father was a "contractor" but doesnt say deceased , though surely john must have been dead by then?

while im writing a thought has occured.  what do you make of the fact that george did not enter any name for father on his ist marr in 1861 but did in 1896.  his first wife wasnt illegitimate and did name her father so it wasnt that he didnt enter his father's name to be sympathetic to his wife.  perhaps a falling out....?

ideas welcome!

i do understand the "wrong Birth cert" habit... I suffer from the same thing lol

Seriously it is possible that George left father out through a family "spat" or maybe he was being diplomatic for his first wife's Illegitimacy...

Have you looked on FreeBMD for a Death cert for John?

Sorry could not help you more
