Hi Revmother,
Sorry forgot about dates.

Unfortunately none of these are the James Borland I'm looking for but thanks for checking for me.  He's maybe buried in Mauchline Cemetry as his parents are in Mauchline Churchyard and I know he's not there.  It is possible the first JB could be his son but I'll need to do some more checking.

Thanks again.

Hi Maureeen
sorry, no one of that name in any of the cemeteries I have access to. They do not include "modern" burials. So it would depend what date you wre lokoing for. But as I say - nothing this time.
Good hunting!

Hi revmother

I'd be grateful to know if there is anything in St. Quivox for a William Downie & his wife Elizabeth Wilson. Probably in the early 1800s (they had children born 1775-1780). I'm also interested in a Julia Downie & what relation, if any, she was to William & Elizabeth - she was alive in 1841, aged 70.

Regards

Hi Blanched
All the Downie memorials are more recent than the ones you asked for. But I'll give them to you anyway because they might be of interest.
St Quivox 1st

1)    Mathew Downie d 9 june 1920 aged 60,
wife helen Stewart d 16 feb 1947 age 85
their infant children - Thomas, Christina, Mathew. That is so sad.

2)   erected by James Bush for his wife Janet Black died 10 july 1881 aged 63 and her son Andrew Downie d 20 march 1883 aged 35

3) in memory of Jane Downie widow of William Downie b sep 1758 d 4 sept 1844 erected by her son Peter Ballantyne of Newark State of New jersey usa.

4)  Elizabeth Downie wife of John mcCulloch d 29 may 1922 aged 61. (She must have been the 2nd wife because his 1st wife and hoards of a family are there too.)

5)  Robert Bell Kirkland d 23 sept 1938 aged 81, husband of Agnes Campbell Downie d 16 feb 1942 aged 79. also their dau Agnes d 17 feb 1943 age 55.

In the Newton green cemetery in Ayr itself three are 2 Downie's
1)  John Boyd native of Troon d Glasgow 1 oct 1876 aged 55
wife mary Downie d Glasgow 17 april 1881 aged 58
(it has the same scripture verse as one of the above)

2)  James MArr d 22 sept 1832 aged 62,
his wife Margaret Downie d 4 dec 1863 aged 86,
their children - quite a lot - if you want them let me know.

And there is one memorial in Wallacetown cemetery
1) Erected by Elizabeth pearson in memory of her father James pearson d 4 july 1868 aged 66,
also her mother Annie Downie d 24 may 1886
who are Interred in Stair cemetery
and then  various other relatives - again, let me know if you want them.

I hope there is something there for you to go on. I gave you the others because they are older and you might have some connections for them.
Here's hoping!
good hunting

Thanks revmother. I'll take a close look at them but on first glance they don't seem to relate to mine - altho' I guess there's a connection somewhere in the mists of time.
