The John Pearson that I am searching for appears in the 1851 census as born in Smarden, Kent, but does not appear in the Smarden baptism registers. I am now looking for him in the adjoining parishes, and the I.G.I. shows a John Pearson baptised at Headcorn. If anybody can check if he is actually there and, if possible, parents and any siblings, I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you very much for the information, Bearkat.
This now opens up a possible connection with Smarden parish as there is a Thomas PEARSON baptised in Smarden 26/01/1782, son of John and Elizabeth PEARSON, perhaps the same parents who earlier appear in Headcorn. Obviously, I have much to do do to confirm or dispute this, but it does now give me a line to follow up.
