Henry Fagg m Sarah Browning 1806 at Elmstone.  Trying to trace them back and wondered if this linked to BettyofKent's interests?  Diane C

Hi Diane, welcome to RootsChat Smiley

The Faggs are in my OH's tree, I haven't done much on them, just the 'bare bones' from the Censuses.

I've got a Henry Fagg, born c1781 Wickham.
Wife Sarah (surname unknown) born c1791 Ash.
Three children (known so far)
Harriet  c1824
William  c1827 Elmstone  (married Mary Spain in 1847)
Julia  c1837  Elmstone  (married Syrus Edward Yetman)

Anything there sound familiar?

Thanks Betty!  It looks like we are linked.
William (married to Mary) is a younger brother of our JAMES FAGG born March 1820.  We have Mary-Ann 20 Mar 1808, Sarah 3 Dec 1809, Hannah 7 Apr 1811, George 21 Jun 1812, Thomas 13 Mar 1814, Henry 3 Mar 1816, Charlotte 15 Jun 1818/19 Jul 1818 [not married but has daughter Julia 3 May 1835], JAMES 3 Mar 1820/9Apr 1820, Charles 14 Jul 1822, Harriet 20 Feb 1825 [refer to Eastry Workhouse Register for 1849. died 14 Oct 1849 buried 17 Oct 1849 age 23 years], William 4 Mar 1827 [m Mary & has Sarah 17 Feb 1850, Charles 14 Dec 1851, John 12 Mar 1852, Elizabeth 2 Mar 1856], Emma 4 Jul 1830 [buried 2 Apr 1832 age 22 months], Alfred 3 Nov 1833 [buried 29 Mar 1835 age 18 months].
We had not found Julia!

JAMES moved to London as a coachman.  In 1861 he was at 2a Porchester Terrace Mews and 1871 at 6 Craven Hill Mews.  He was at Paddington Workhouse in 1881 and died there 15 Jan 1884 age 62 with his address as 38b Porchester Terrace.

HENRY FAGG was his father.  We have a wedding record for 13 Oct 1806 to Sarah BROWNING at Preston (by Wingham).  The banns were at Elmstone in Aug & Sep.  We think Sarah may be the daughter of John Browning and Anna Jarvest who married 1 Feb 1783 at Elmstone [siblings Ann, Elizabeth, Judith and John] but this would make her only 16 1/2 when married.  We haven't managed to check the 1841 and 1851 censuses to see if this is the right Sarah - are your birthplaces from the 1851 census?

Thanks,  Diane

Hi Diane

I thought I would eventually link up with someone on here Smiley Smiley Smiley

I'll look for my notes on this family, it's a while since I've done anything on them & I need to refresh my memory.

Hi Diane

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, we've got builders in, & today is the first chance I've had to get to the box with my notes on this family, not to mention having nowhere to sort the papers before now Grin

OH's great-great grandfather was George Dennis. On the censuses his wife is shown as Sarah. I couldn't find their oldest child registered under Dennis, but found him under Fagg.
Going by the 1851 census, Sarah's parents were William & Mary.
William's parents were Henry & Sarah.
I've just sent for George's marriage certificate to be certain I'm on the right track.
I'll let you know what the cert says.
