Listers

Does anyone have these people in Luton 1861 & 1871?

I am looking for an American lady who asked at Beds FH site...she seems reluctant to come on to Rootschat herself - although I have said no one bites!  Grin Grin Grin

from the BFHS guestbook is....

Looking for Rosson family information. Lived in Luton during World War One. Charles J. & Lavinia Rosson had known children of: Walter Charles J. (immigrated to USA), Henrietta (married Henry Gibbons & had at least one son Cyril Burberry Gibbons), Charles, Lavinia and maybe Albert.

Cathy - have you researched the 1881/1891/1901 censuses then ?

John

Thanks.

Yes, that is Leanne [from Wesconsin] but there is also  a 'Randi' [from Texas] on another list also looking for Luton ROSSIN [I can't presume it is the same branch - just because they are both American!]  I am trying to put them in touch to sort it out!

If you look in CWWG - one grandson died as as a result of his war wounds here in Luton  - another ROSSON died as a result of the War but he was buried in Luton too [cant place him] WW1.

There is no info on this family really - I think it was destroyed in the fire of Luton Town Hall?

Many thanks

cathy

Charles John ROSSON was my great grandfather.
Charles John ROSSON (born 1835) father is Henry ROSSON, mother Sarah TARRANT.

Appreciate any info on Henry and Sarah.

The Rossons were hat manufacturers in Luton and plait manufacturer meant they made straw plaits for making straw hats.

Denise

A lot of the Hat People are not listed but you may find your ROSSONs in the trade directories online [just search for ''Historical Directories'']

There is a Luton TARRANT [Henry aged 20 in 1832] in Bedford Gaol for rioting - he sounds interesting!  Is he one of yours?

I have not been able to find the Tarrant - Henry Rosson married Sarah Tarrant but cannot find the marriage. In 1834  son Henry Benjamin (think he may have been firstborn) was born in Middlesex. Later children also in  London, Shoreditch.

Must say I quite like the Tarrant you have found - always nice to find out more about someone than a name, even if they are a rioter,  but not sure he is one of mine.

I have found the ROSSON family in Luton - have photo of C. J Rosson's shop, Lavinia Rosson( Bland)  will etc. I am stuck further back on his father Henry and mother Sarah Tarrant.
