Census Data, BMD, Misc. Indexes
« on: Thursday 22 April 04 08:42 BST (UK) »

go to  http://www.census-online.com/links/   and be prepare to be astounded !

There is all sorts of census data here, for U.S.A, Canada, and the U.K, divided up into States / Counties.
Amongst other things: workhouse censuses (includes inmates and staff) , lists of strays, village censuses (censi ??), Whites Directory, ...

Some of the data has been collected "privately" with special emphasis on particular family links, some seems to be general transcriptions of records.

Click on the U.K. countries list, and you even get a map of the counties, invaluable for overseas searchers (and even some british searchers !) .

http://www.calderdale.gov.uk - v good site for anyone searching west yorkshire/calderdale.  Initially I put it in the Yorkshire forum.

There is an area called from Weaver to Web featuring hundreds of intriguing documents and photos including parish records, surveys of residents etc.

Just come across this site:

http://www.genogold.com/

It has lots of data from all over the country - birth, baptism, marriage, will, death, grave, burial, MEO (memorial inscription, epitaph/obituary) and anecdotal text.  Also census information for some areas.

Coverage seems to be a bit patchy at the moment but the site states that they are adding records all the time.

WWW
Deaths
« Reply #9 on: Friday 30 July 04 23:12 BST (UK) »

I have been told about this website recently...

http://webfamily.org.uk

It contains information about all UK deaths in recent years, along with the person's year of birth.

People I have spoken to are a little confused as to where the information has been sourced from, but all seem to agree the data is highly accurate.

The index can be viewed, and further information can be accessed by 'logging in'. However, I don't know of anyone who has successfully registered to be able to log in, though. Huh

One more note: The site seems to have a limited number of users who can access it at any one time. If you are unlucky on your first attempt, try again later..

http://www.censusuk.co.uk/

Interesting site with offer of free lookups on certain Census's and VRI's. Results are emailed direct to your inbox.

One of the pages is Famous Victorians and where they were on Census night.

I hav'nt personaly used this site for lookups so don't know how reliable it is but for those of you who are having problems with 1881 or firewalls rejecting certain sites it might be worth giving it a go.
