Looking up slovakian and chzech relatives, I came across these two sites:

http://www.bmi.net/jjaso/Latin_Terms_and_Phrases.html  (as found on BMD certs )
It also includes many medical terms still in use !
This is in table form, and is probably worth printing out for easy reference.

and http://www.halgal.com/vitalrecords.html

"Tutorial of Vital Records
A detailed look at reading records in the standard format used from the late 18th century up to the middle of the 20th century.  Includes a step-by-step process of reading the records using numerous scanned images.  These tutorials are useful to genealogists researching any of the territory that was once controlled by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, including Western Galicians, Czechs, Slovaks, Hungarians, etc.).  Please be patient while the pages download."

This could be of interest to anybody with R.Cath. records, as the tutorials include translation of all latin terms !

A website of interest to family historians is due to go live on 26th
October.
You can already visit the new site at
www.VisionofBritain.org.uk but - please note - the site is still under
construction;  better graphics and much more
information will be on it come the end of October, and it will continue to
be expanded thereafter".  In the meantime, you can visit the
"What's Coming Next" page to get a better preview of what the site may
offer.

This link is by Gensmart It analizes your Ged.com file and gives you suggestions of places to look. A good tool if you are completely stuck! It is at a cost, but the free trial is just as good. I have tried it and it has given me some pointers.  Grin
