Egremont Iron Miners - Florence Mine
« on: Thursday 19 April 07 22:02 BST (UK) »

Trystan and I had the pleasure of spending Easter up in Cumberland. One place we wanted to visit was Florence Mine at Egremont the last Iron Ore mine in Europe  Shocked

http://www.florencemine.co.uk

It is very worth a visit but they are not set up for the odd visiting tourist so please phone ahead to book an underground tour. (sadly we could not go on a tour)

What caught our eye was that they had a poster regarding researching family history  Shocked Shocked If you have a miner in the 1800's working in Egremont then it is worth getting in touch with them. They have newspaper records of this period associated with the mine at 10 pence per sheet.

Can anyone identify any of these miners from the Florence Pit, Egremont. My grandfather John Ewart Graham is to the right on the back row. The date is not known, but it must have been about 1910.
