Passengers who died crossing the Atlantic
« on: Friday 20 April 07 04:19 UTC (UK) »

While reading an old Family Tree Magazine, I came across this list of people who died while crossing the Atlantic in 1853from Liverpool to New York. The Hibernia arrived in New York 24th November 1853 and the Constellation arrived the same day.  I thought by transcribing the list it may help someone that was looking for a person that just disappeared from sight. I have attached the lists as a document.

Best wishes

Hi,

This is really interesting - does anyone know where I could find this sort of list for other dates?

My ancestors emigrated on the Constellation in March 1852, and I would like to find out whether one of the children died on the crossing, as we haven't been able to find any trace of him after.

Thanks,

Bev.

I wonder what they all died of - bet it was something contagious!

There was 967 passengers on the constellation and 100 died on the crossing.

It was dreadfully sad that so many died on a journey that when they started out should and their dreams were that they were going to a better life.
