A number of my ancestors seem to have been living in this area of Inverness during the first half of the 19th century. Can anyone tell me where this is?

Hi Teresa

According to "Historic Inverness" by A Gerald Pollitt, Green of Muirtown was situated on the west bank of the River Ness around the Wells Street area (incidentally there is still a Muirtown Street in the area too). Wells Street should be marked on most modern maps of Inverness, so hopefully you should be able to find the area OK.

Hi Teresa,

Try this link:

and then choose the second rectangle grid in the top row from the left. As you move your mouse over it, hopefully you will see: XII.1.4

Then zoom in a wee bit and Muirtown Green is marked over the area and Muirtown Street is there too.

Thank you Nell and Lyn. Have found Muirtown Green on the web link and also one of the other roads I'm looking for.

Shall try and resist the temptation to stay up all night playing with the maps!!!
