Hi there
I'm looking for information on Robert Hourston, born 1873 in Orkney.
I have found what I believe could be his marriage certificate.
In 1902 in the Parish Church,Parish of St Leonard a Robert Hourston age 29 married Margaret Duggan,age 22, father was Patrick Duggan.
I found a census entry for 1891at Walton on the Hill Bootle for a Margaret Duggan age 40 born c1851 in Ireland, daughter Margaret age 10 born c1880 in Ireland and son Patrick age 6 born in Liverpool in 1885.
i also found on the IGI a birth record For Margaret Anne Duggan born 1880 in Dublin, parents were Patrick Duggan and Margaret Doyle Duggan.
So I am looking for anyone with connections to this family.

Hi airdlass, as you probably know, researching Irish ancestors can be a bit of a nightmare but the more info you can gather the better. So, you are lucky that one child was born in England as you can obtain his birth cert and discover Margaret's maiden name.
You could also try the surname interest board to see if anyone else is researching the same family....

Thanks for your reply - I haven't had to do much research in Irish records as most of my relatives remained in Scotland.
I am particularly keen to find out about Robert Hourston as the family story is that he met and married someone his family wouldn't have approved of so he was never heard of again which is rather a shame.
I will send for the birth certificate of Patrick,who was born in Liverpool and see where that takes me.

It looks as if Robert and Margaret had several children, so you may find descendants out there somewhere!

Thankyou very much for the info - that is brilliant. |I notice one of the names is Beatrice. Robert had a niece called Beatrice and Robert's sister and grandmother was Isabella so seems very likely this is the family I'm looking for.
