any information please
« on: Monday 23 April 07 23:39 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find two brothers Henry  Briggs b 1822 and George b 1821 Barking Essex.  According to Henry's marriage the father is William Briggs a Fisherman.

In 1841 HO107/323/4/53/7  there is one Henry the right age but with parents (I assume) Thomas and Susannnh aged 50 but there is no George. This couple appear also on the IGI. with other children.

Any help very much appreciated.

You may already have these but just in case,

1851  HO107/1772  f.487  p.35  Barking
Axe St.

William BRIGGS    Head    mar    59    Fisherman
Ether      "  "       Wife    mar    57
Joseph    "  "        Son      U     17    Blacksmith      All dittoed as Essex Barking

1841  HO107/323/1  f.43  p.33  Barking
Axe St.

Esther BRIGGS    40   *do    do    N
Mary        "       20      F.S.        Y
Eliza         "       15       "           Y
Joseph      "        8                    Y

* this is dittoed from above as Fishermans wife then crossed out later with a different pen, looking again all "fishermans wife' occupations have been crossed out.

This is the only William BRIGGS of the right sort of age and a fisherman I could find in the area, unfortunately neither Henry are George are with the family, but I can't find George anywhere, do you have him on a later census?

If not the direct family they may be related  Smiley

WOW what a find, your amazing  Kiss Kiss Kiss I had not got either of these, it must be Henry's family. His father could be out at sea on the 41 quite possibly  Undecided

Now regards George, I am not sure if he is Henry's brother, Henry died in 1859 and his daughter Emma b 1853 is not with her widowed mother in 61 down a Greggs not Briggs RG9/1057/77/18 but there is an Emma the right age living in Bethnal Green down as a niece with a George Briggs and family RG9/267/108/10.  I could not find another Emma that fitted the criteria

The marriage cert of Henry & Emma Barker has witnesses George Briggs and Sarah Barker which I assume are brother and sister but on the 61 George's birth is down as Bethnal Green but we know how wrong they can be.

Got George in 51 HO107/1542/395/26 but cant find a marriage for them, that would tell me if in fact they were brothers.

this is a never ending saga  ::)Here is the link to my original thread which explains all  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,223171.0.html

Thanks so much for helping me, please continue to do so, I need all the help I can get  Grin

What a tangled web on your other thread  Grin  I think I'll wait until tomorrow with fresh eyes to try and work them out  Smiley

I see in 1851 George has a 1 year old daughter, Selva. This might be her birth registration, at Ancestry it's indexed as Silbear but I think the image looks like Silvear,

Silbear/Silvear BRIGGS  Jun Q  1850  Bethnal Gr.  v.2  p.65

This would give you Selva/Silva/Sylvia Snr's maiden name which may help find her marriage to George BRIGGS.

I dont blame you and I quite agree,  Cheesy  its mind blowing isent it  Roll Eyes But it does help if you know the full picture, beginning to wish I had never started on this lot.  Undecided   Yes I found the birth of little Silvear, it is a possiblity if I cant find anything else to help me.

Many many thanks once again.

A forever grateful Patrish. Wink

This website may be a help to you, it says that Barking is not covered by the IGI, maybe they can find the missing baptisms  Smiley

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01gz/

and although I can find Barking(Independent Or Congregational) 1804 - 1836, at the Hugh Wallis IGI Batch numbers site here, no Briggs come up  Sad

Thanks for those links, looks like I had better concentrate on going forwards now  as I cannot get to the necessary studies centre to search the parish records.

What I realy need to find is my Emma Briggs B 1853 on the 81 census as I am sure this is the clue to who William and Harrys father is  Undecided

thanks again Patrish.
