"Of this parish"?
« on: Tuesday 24 April 07 03:30 BST (UK) »

Hello

I've been wondering for ages what exactly 'of this parish' means?

Does it mean they live in that parish, or does it mean they were baptised in the parish, or can it mean either?

Help in clear this up would be much apprecited!

Many thanks.

Sally.

Hi Sally

Speaking only from my own research, it means they were living in the parish at the time of the marriage (banns would be called in two parishes if the couple  did not live in the same parish).

Thus, it may or may not mean that the person was baptised in that parish.

Hi Trish

Many thanks for your reply.  I thought as much.  Even though you're not sure, I guess you're right.  They don't half make it hard for us - haha!!

Good luck with your search.
