In my search for my Great Grandfather and family, I had an old photograph of him in uniform, and a Belfast address from the Ulster Covenant list of signators. The Belfast Street Directory shows him as a Corps of Commissionaires member. Many ex-servicement of good character served with the Corps.
In response to my letter of inquiry, I received a photocopy of a partial page from the Corps Duty Roll Book (Belfast). The person who responded to my letter commented that as the book is very large, it is not 'photocopy friendly', and some areas of the page are hard to decipher. Also, the handwriting is rather ornate. He kindly typed out the entry for my Great Grandfather which shows his regiment of enlistment, but not that he served mostly with the Royal Irish Fusiliers.
Using that as a guide, I transcribed the other entries on that partial page, and will gladly provide further information if anyone wants it.

Thanks for the thanks. I know how frustrating it can be when there are minimal clues that seem to lead nowhere. I hope that some folks will find this information useful, even if it's just the knowledge that the Corps has kept its records and will provide information upon request.
It would be nice to learn, in time, that others find this helpful.

Hi Kathleen, I have a very similiar story to you.
As my Grandad was also in the Corps & living in Belfast (from children's birth certs) I thought he had to be with the Belfast branch, but when I contacted them, they didn't seem very helpful. Maybe it was because I e-mailed & then phoned them but they only directed me to contact the London office.
A helpful lady there could only provide start / finish dates for men with Grandad's name, but not which branch they worked at or anything else, so rather disappointing really.
Now reading your post & how much info you got makes me wonder if I should try again. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, or did you make 'a donation' to the Corps which smoothed the way? Regards, TonyR.

I wrote a letter to them with as much information about my Great Grandfather as I had and asked if they could help. The person who responded certainly made a great effort to help me. Also, I sent a letter of thanks to him.

Hi Kathleen, bingo!, I got same result as you, photocopied pages with my Grandad's entry highlighted. The headings were explained, so a pretty good result really.
I'm not sure if motto should be 'don't take no for an answer' or 'never give up' or 'always write & include a sae', but whatever it is, persistance paid off.
The details of the other men on the photocopy are transcribed below.
