Scan sizes ?
« on: Saturday 28 April 07 12:09 BST (UK) »

Hi folks.
Was hoping to get a bit of advice about scanning prints. When it comes to computers I'm not the brightest light on the Christmas tree, so any info would be a help.
Scanner is an Epson 2480.
If I scan at 300 or 600 DPI, then open the TARGET SIZE window. I normally select 768x1024, other sizes go down in scale. Does selecting one of these sizes reduce the DPI ?.
Hope this is not a stupid question, but as I said, when it comes to computers I'm the original dummy.
Dixie.

In my experience the dpi is independent of the picture size. You should set all dimentions and dpi in the options window of your scanner control software. I always recheck the default settings before scanning just to be sure.

Hi Dixie Dee

Have you read this thread

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,136704.0.html

and also Cazza's scanning tutorial which are "stickied" to the top of the list of threads on the Photo Restoration board?

There is a mass of information in those, and several others, but if you are still stuck no doubt the experts will help!

kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

Thanks folks, I printed out Cazza's scanning tutorial, and with try and absorb it at my leisure. All this technical stuff is a bit much for an old wood-butcher.
Thanks again folks,
Dixie

Hi everyone.
Thanks for the help. I read Cazza's scanning tutorial and went into the links suggested and I think the info is starting to get absorbed into the saw-dust.
Cazza's info is very easy to follow so had no problem with it.
Thanks again everyone,
Dixie
