I think I'm probably clutching at straws but is anyone able to help me trace my husband's Moore ancestors. Sadly we know very little about them and I'm not sure how correct the information we do have, is!
I'm looking for Matthew Francis Moore who would have been born c1891. We have been told the family came from Enniscorthy.
Matthew is believed to have been married and had children in Ireland before coming to England, where he remarried in 1921. I don't know what became of his wife or children in Ireland. I can't be sure when he came over but know he was in England during the first world war.
According to his 2nd marriage certificate his father was William Moore who was deceased in 1921. William was a Post Office Inspector.
The family are also said to have links to Enniscorthy castle (though I'm unsure how true this is)
Please excuse my ignorance over the Irish resources available but is there a surviving census I could find him on. This side of the family have been my biggest brickwall yet with no signs of it crumbling any time soon 
Any help, information or advice would be really appreciated

Hello KPM,
Matthew's birth in the area of 1891 would have been registered as a state certificate. This would be available to you. (not online unfortunately) If he was still in Ireland up to 1911 then he would likely appear on the 1901 and the 1911 census that is available here in Ireland.
Enniscorthy Castle..was a Norman castle that dates from 1205 and was a private dwelling until 1951.
during the reign of Elizabeth 1 she gave it to the poet Edward Spencer for his work, The Fairie Queen.
The castle is used today to house the County Wexford Museum, there are exhibits there Commemorating the 1798 and 1916 risings;
Matthew Moore birth should have been registered, his baptism would also be available. and his fathers Death if it took place in Ireland would also be available.

Thank you for the information.
I did look into ordering the birth certificate but from memory the form I needed to complete as asking for information which I did not have such as mother's name etc. I can't even be exact about the year of birth really as I only have his age on the marriage certificate to go by.
Thank you also for the information about Enniscorth castle - the more I find out, the less I believe that the family really did live there - I think this may have been one of those family stories which has changed through each generation!
How would I go about checking the 1901 & 1911 census (I live in England) Do you know who I can contact and whether there is a research service available.
Sorry to ask so many questions but I am new to Irish genealogy!!

I am going into the GRO tomorrow morning and will see if I can find his birth cert.
I haven't been over to the National Archives in a while but should be heading there soon enough... I have a lost soul that just won't appear for me... lol... and I will see if I can find your Matthew on the Enniscorthy pages... its a matter of trawling through the individual pages as none of them are on line although its in the "works" as they say.... There is a joint project underway between the Canadians and here to get both census returns available online in the next couple of years...

3 Moores were killed in ww1 from Wexford. They were from, Bree, Enniscorthy (Matthew). Selskar Street and Bride Street, Wexford (James and William).

There are 3 births and 2 marraiges of Matthew Moore in Wexford between 1888 and 1921, most of them are in Enniscorthy. http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html

After Matthew died his wife married another soldier named Cogely and lived in the barracks in Newbridge, County Kildare. Her first name was Mary.

Thank you for your replies regarding my Moore relatives.
I am really interested in the 1901/1911 census records for William and Margaret Moore and their children Mary, Timothy, Mathew, James, Margaret, Simon. I think it is very possible that this is my missing family - some of these names have been used in later generations.
Is there any further information available, ie ages - as I think this will give me more of an idea whether they could be my elusive family!
I really do appreciate this information as I have been researching this family for sometime and continually come across brickwalls and sadly the family refuse to help me with information.
Thank you also for the details of the birth of Matthew Moore - this could also be the one I'm looking for. I have still to look at the marriages to see whether any of these could match.
Thank you also enfield but I don't think the Matthew you found is mine. I know my relative died in 1945 in England.
Thank you all once again for your help - this is the first bit of movement I've had with this family for almost 2 years now.
