COMPLETED- Is there some easy way to get rid of annoying message?
« on: Monday 30 April 07 19:51 BST (UK) »

When I exit Outlook Express a box comes up with the following message: 'To free up disk space Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take up to a few minutes. OK CANCEL'
Each time I press CANCEL. Is there some way to stop message from appearing?

Compact your messages....

Sorry, I don't know but I get that message too and it's sooooo irritating and I can be bothered to press ok.  I did try emptying a lot of old messages out, but it didn't go away.

Must say I get that message every few days, drives me to distraction, comes up everytime you close Outlook, but the most annoying part is that it sends mine to the recycle bin, so I have to make sure to restore items....

Just a thought, does it have anything to do with Internet Explorer v.7, I'm sure it only started after all the windows updates.........I could be completely wrong and it's bound to be pointed out (but I hate v.7 and I'm deliberately not updating my laptop)  Wink

Hi! agahadowey.
Just click on OK that's alright to do, and then it will compress your Emails and save space, you can still access them as normal afterwards. You then will not get the message next time. It might also be a good idea to delete any mails you do not want anymore.

Kind Regards
Take Care

Raphael- when I did say OK it sent OE files into Recycle bin which meant that they kept building up there.
Have only had this computer a few weeks now so I don't have that much in OE files but was hoping there's some setting for this message not coming up.

Same here, when you click ok about compacting messages just sends it straight to the recycle bin, only thing is you have got to be so careful not to delete it otherwise, aaggggggggghhhhhhhh

I thought that I had inadvertently pressed something and that was why it was doing it but if your having the same problem, goodness knows, the answer is probably so simple

I get this message occasionally in Outlook Express.  I always press OK to compact them and they never go to the recycle bin.

Update- finally got fed up with Outlook message that I (after several problems) changed to Mozilla Thunderbird (thank you John) and it's brilliant- no annoying message, junk mail directed straight to delete, etc.
