Selkirk MIs
« on: Monday 30 April 07 20:41 UTC (UK) »

I'm trying to find the graves of two ancestors:
Thomas SCOTT (d. ~1870) and his wife
Margaret SCOTT (m.s. LYON d 11 July 1868)
They lived in the town of Selkirk.

Is there a listing of MIs for Selkirk? If not, can anyone suggest where they might be buried? I haven't been to Selkirk for ages and didn't know I had ancestors from there then.

Jacky,

I made few enquiries at the Mitchell Library here in Glasgow.

The only books of Selkirkshire MIs are for the period before 1855.

Many thanks folks.

I've now found Thomas & Margaret in the censuses from 1841-1861. I haven't had much time to do any more on this family but, if I could find where they are buried, I was going to try and pass by next time I'm up in Edinburgh.

You can buy Selkirk death records from Nigel at SGTranscriptions (see website) or phone the cemeteries office in Galashiels for burial records in Selkirk

All 3 cemeteries for Selkirk have been transcribed by the Selkirkshire antiguarians and produced by the Border Family history society in the last six months see  www.bordersfhs.org.uk . The Auld Kirkyard is the oldest with individual photos per headstone.next oldest is Brierylaw then Shawfield no photographs but lots of info. All produced in CD pdf. They also have about 40 other MIs for Berwick Roxburgh and Selkirkshire  including the latest Bowden ,Melrose Abbey,Weirhill Melrose, etc. and most include war memorial info and militia lists and/or hearth tax list. They are currently working on Ettrick Kirkyard bringing it up to date and willbe published  this year.
