Could anyone help me find any information on a Mary Ann Smythshe may have married my husbands GT Grandfather James Mcvey  born 1835 ). His  father was also a James McVey born  about 1816 in Ireland dont know where abouts in Ireland he was however married to a Anne Steele, James Mcvey born 1835 may have had a wife called Mary Ann Smyth may have married 1855 in arboe though, but not sure.  James born 1835 was a widow when he came to sydney in 1860 on the ship the Telegraph.
This Mary ann Smyth could have been dead by 1860 is  it possible someone could try and find a death of Mary Ann smyth.

Hello Barbara,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
