Please give the county or distict for Hatfield as there 5 or 6 with that name in England. approximate dates etc: And is Serancke spelling as far as you know correct?  There are also several Hadfields too.

Welcome dev!

I think that I have found the brewer, in St Albans though, not Hatfield.

1861 Census
RG9/831 Folio 19 Page 81
Kingsbury Lodge
Branch Road
St Michael
St Albans
Herts

SEARANCKE

Francis J, Head, Married, 51, Brewer, Malster & Spirit Merchant employing 11 men & 1 boy, born St Albans
Maria, Wife, 33, born Florence, Italy (British Subject)
Francis M, Son, 12, Scholar, b St Michael
Alice E, Dau, 4, b St Michael

+ 5 servants.

According to the 1881 census, Francis Jnr went on to become a solicitor.

RG11/46 Folio 84
15 Fawcett Street
St Mary Abbotts
London
Middlesex

SEARANCKE Francis M, Head, 35, Married, Solicitor, b St Albans

+ 2 Servants.

The only reference to this family and Hatfield from my own records was the following marriage from the Hatfield Marriage Register.

Gascoigne Lowen & Sarah Searancke, both of Hatfield, Married 05 Aug 1718

Do you have any specific forenames or time frames?  You would probably need to consult a Crockfords Directory for your clergymen.  Crockfords should be available from all main libraries in their reference sections.

Kia Ora  thank you to all that have replied

Raphael yes the spelling of searancke is correct as to what we know.

the area is Hatfield Hertfordshire times are probably from 1500

Rick is the book that you have mentioned available for sale at all as I live in New Zealand

Also have been wondering if there maybe any old photo's available any where and where would on look

I believe the name Searancke died out around the 1700 and the family became Nicoll  - on the Death of John Searancke sheriff of Hatfield 1777 who had no issue and will and compliance to Francis Carter Nicoll to contiue the name of Searancke.

Our NZ connection to the Searancke's come through William Nicoll Searancke around 1840 with his arrival in NZ.

and thank you every-one

Hi Dev

There is a lot about your ancestor  William Nicoll SEARANCKE here that you may have already seen.

A clergyman connection?

http://www.hertfordshire-genealogy.co.uk/data/places/hatfield.htm

The "Chequers Inn" ... stretched across the bottom of Fore Street, adjoining the side of the "One Bell". ... The first we hear of the Inn is in 1490, when at the Manor Court it was ordered that the water-course between "Le Cheker and Lesers Lane" be amended. By the early seventeenth century it had come into the hands of the Searancke family, who issued the half-penny token [shown]. In 1716 the Rev. Thomas Searanke, the then owner, insured the dwelling house of the "Chequers" with the Sun Insurance Office, London. ... From the billeting returns of 1756 the "Chequers" appears to be the largest in the parish. At the court of Astwick Manor held in 1802 we learn that the inn had lately be converted into a private house, and for some time afterwards it was used as the Brewery residence.

Entry for Francis from the 1823 Pigots Directory

Searancke Francis, Brewer, Fishpool st, St Albans

A quick google of images for fishpool street brings up the following.

http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=fishpool+street&gbv=2
~~~~~~~~---------
All SEARANCKES listed as owning land in Hertfordshire in 1873.
Name, Address, Amount of Land (Rounded to nearest Acre) Gross Est Annual Rental.
Mr SEARANCKE, St Albans, 1 acre, £50
FJ SEARANCKE, St Albans, 31 acres, £555
Mary Emm. SEARANCKE, St Albans, 6 acres, £45
~~~~~~~~--------

An early Crockfords Directory may well come up for sale somewhere, but the cost may be prohibitive.  You should be able to consult early tomes at major libraries in NZ.

An online search of the "Access to Archives" site brings many documents relating to the family in Herts that can be ordered online.

http://www.a2a.org.uk/search/index.asp

HALS will ultimately be your best bet.  They do offer a research service for those unable to visit, but if you post for individual, specific requests on the Herts LOOKUP REQUESTS board, you may be lucky and someone who is visiting may check for you.

It is also worth remembering that many historical documents including parish records have been filmed and are available for hire to view at any LDS Family History Centre worldwide.
