Ross & McGregor
« on: Thursday 03 May 07 22:04 BST (UK) »

Hi was wondering if any kind person out there would be able to help me trace a marriage between David ROSS and Helen McGREGOR. Not sure what the parish was but i know that ther daughter helen was born 1876, and that she married in Forfar in 1898. So i am gussing her parents came from the Forar area as well, any help would be gratefully recived.

Hi,

Was Helen born in Forfar? If not do you know where? Will have a look for her in the earlier census if you have place of birth (hopefully with parents and would get their place of birth). If not, who did she marry?.,.can check 1901 census and check birth place on that.

Welcome to Rootschat Trailrunner,

When you say you know Helen was born in 1876 do you have her birth certificate.... I did a quick search but while there are 16 Helen Ross's born but none in Forfar at all...

As rainbow said if we could find her birth its likely the marriage wouldn't be too far away.... I will look on the 1901 and see if we could find them

Best wishes

If you are looking for the parish of Marnoch (it's not spelled Marnock!) you need to look on a map for Aberchirder, which is the largest village in the parish. One of these awkward parishes where the main town/village has a different name from the parish.
