Lookup - Auckland Archives **Completed**

Hi,

Is there some kind person going to the Archives in Auckland in the next few weeks (before they close for 5 months!!) who could do a Probate lookup for me.

The details are GODDEN Sydney Herbert - Kohu Kohu - Hotel keeper 1893 - 1893 agency series accession box / item record part alternative no.
BBAE  1569   Box 52 1550  Date of death was 16 October 1893.

Sydney Godden came to New Zealand with his wife Amelia sometime after 1882 when he married in England.  I have not been able to find him on any emigration lists and it is possible he paid his own fare or came because of his employment in the Navy.  He was only 31/32 years old when he died.

If someone is able to do this lookup for me I would be eternally grateful.  If help is needed with Australian research, particularly in Brisbane, I would be happy to return the favour.

Hi Carol,

I will be visiting the Akld Archives in the next few days and will have a look for your Godden probate if nobody has already done so.  As your posting was in March I thought I had better check.

Hi Esther,

That would be really great, nobody else has done it.  I understood the Auckland Archives were closing down in may for rebuilding or something and would be closed for some months.  Is this correct?

There was no extra info, He gave everything to his wife.

The Will does have a beautiful signature, worth a $1 to photocopy.


There was another will of interest, (could be his son)
Sydney Herbert Gooden  of Orere, died 30-1-1947, was in Armed forces, now a Draper.
gave it all to his wife, Sybil Bannister Godden of Manuwera.

Thank you so much for doing that lookup.  I thought the will might have revealed the existence of some children but it seems they didn't have any.  I think the second one was a nephew but not sure, I will keep digging.

Can I do any lookups for you in Oz?
