Joseph ASBURY - Whitwell

I've managed to trace my family back to Joseph Asbury(born c1816 in Whitwell) but I've can't seem to get back any further.

Has anyone ever come across this person in their research?  Apparently he married an Ann Aldridge in 1838 and had the following children:

Rose born c1834
William born c1839 (my ggg grandfather)
Sarah born c1843

I also think that he married for a 2nd time to a Sarah Willingham and had several children with her.

Can anyone help?

Copy of either marriage certificate should have his father's name and occupation.

wife Ann Aldridge & 2nd wife Sarah Willingham

St Pauls Warden & Whitwell ( sometimes shown as Whitewell in the census) are neighbouring villages between Luton & Stevenage, the registration district would be Hitchin

Bapts for the children you list,with parents Joseph & Ann

The only birth regs that fit for Sarah are..

I do not think the Rose you show as a child for Joseph & Ann is correct as there is a bapt. for the right time, only mother shown so she is probably illegitimate, & the date is too early for Joseph & Ann's marriage

I have the census details for the 1841, not the 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891  not the 1901 as both Joseph & Sarah had died by then.  Joseph was shown as either Shoe maker or Cordwainer.

Joseph & Sarah had, in total, 10 children shown in the census.

If you would like the census info I can transcribe them for you & send them on.
