George Bruce
« on: Saturday 28 July 07 23:45 BST (UK) »

Seraching for descendents of George Bruce m Mary Jane Lowrey 23.02.1868. George b 1845 Workington, Mary Jane b 1848 Sandwith St Bees.
Children: Tom b1870; Mary b1871; John b1873; Elizabeth b1875; George b1876; Jane b1878; James b1880; Agnes b1883; Preston b1884; William b1888; Gilfred b1891. All children b St Bees.
George's death remains elusive. He was tried at Carlisle assizes court(circa 1892) for the alleged murder of his wife, but I can't find any trace of his death. At the time he was noted to be suffering form 'melancholia' and family legend alleges he was sent to Dartmoor, but surely prisoners deaths were also recorded? I can't find this at all. Would be v. grateful for help.

Many thanks

Mary

Many thanks for this - I had not thought of Broadmoor but considering the evidence at the inquest of his wife's murder I should have!!!

Will look for his death now.....but not holding out much hope as have already trawled through all which appeared relevant on BMD, but double checking won't do any harm.

Thank you
