My son always thought the Xmas song was 'give us a kiss for christmas under me little toe'.He's 24 now and doesn't believe us  Kiss

My nephew used to call the bloke in red who comes on Xmas eve Farmer Frimmus.

If anything went wrong my dad would say 'it's a cats-after-me'.

And my godson used to hate those big police al-sTation dogs.

My mum has always has arthur ritis. No one knows how painful it is  Huh. My hubby says Arthur Ritis has been my mums best friend for years.

This page just gets funnier and funnier. I'm in tears. LOL!!!

By the way, had another attack of foot in mouth the other night with words....I was teaching my class and went to say the word "version" and it came out "virgin". Thank god all of my class is over 21.  Embarrassed We must've laughed just about all night on that one.

My daughter was frustrated when we couldn't understand what a "sam" was. it took a while for us to realise she was trying to say "it's an ambulance". She is 24 now, a nurse and both she and the rest of the family still refer to ambulances as "sams"

Hi everyone

Some of our family favourites when my daughters were little were epalents for elephants, mosheemers for mosquitoes or mozzies as they are known here in Oz and hooters for roosters.   Don't know if this qualifies as a made up word but when we lived in the highlands of New Guinea tribal men who wore arsegrass to cover their backsides were called greenybums.  Sorry if I've offended anyone   Sad  with the words I've used but the grass was called the a word and you made sure you were standing up wind if the grass wasn't fresh!

I hate to admit this, but once when we were out for a drive in Oakham, we saw a building which had a sign on that said Horseshoes ... I miss read it, and asked hubby what Horses hoes were?  Huh

When out with friends once, we were walking down a street, and the little boy asked what's a Rapist.  We all stopped in our tracks and asked what he meant.  He pointed to a sign above a door that read, Joe Bloggs Therapist.... he had read it as The rapist  Grin

I think Lewis Carroll had the ultimate in made up words. I just love this poem:

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought--
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One two! One two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
