Dear Rootschatters
I've come to a bit of a dead end with this one and wonder if some new eyes could solve my problem!
Facts known so far:
Thomas Litchfield, born about 1802 in Kingston Bagpuize, married Sarah ?. She was born in about 1805 again in Kingston Bagpuize.
They both lived in the Kingston Bagpuize/Draycott Moor/Longworth area all their lives, having several children.
I would like to know what Sarah's maiden name was. I can't find a reference to their marriage in the local parish registers - the Litchfield family used both Kingston Bagpuize & Longworth parish churches, nothing on Pallot's marriage index, and it's too early for the BMD indexes.
Kingston Bagpuize at the time was in Berkshire, now in Oxfordshire. Is there a Berkshire marriage index somewhere that might have them listed?

Hi KN ...
Firstly, just to confirm that there's no sign of Thomas and Sarah's marriage on the Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837) - I also checked for spellings LICHFIELD and LYCHFIELD!
The OMI includes the contiguous parishes to the north of Kingston Bagpuize and Longworth, but not the parishes themselves (couldn't find any record for Draycott Moor). KB and Longworth marriages are on the N. Berks. MI and the OFHS will do lookups for you (costs a couple of pounds) - go to "Search Services" on their website homepage.
If you want to check out locations of Oxfordshire parishes - and what data is available - go to http://searches.oxfordshirefhs.org.uk/pardata.html.
Good hunting ... and Happy New Year!

Dear Valda & Pennie
Thank you for your efforts on this one. I'm rather proud that I think I've now solved this one myself!
Having looked at the parish registers again I found several Sarahs born in roughly the appropriate year. One in particular caught my attention - one Sarah Church d/o Richard & Elizabeth. I already knew that the Litchfield family were a relatively affluent farming family, as were the Churches, another well-off farming lot.
So I had a look at the wills on the National Archives site and lo and behold found a will for one Richard Church, so I treated myself to an extra Christmas present and downloaded it.
"I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah, now the wife of Thomas Litchfield of Draycott Moor ......."!
Couldn't be much clearer!! No-one else here can understand quite why I'm so excited about this!! Sure that you will.

Hi KN ...
Well done - and, yes, I understand perfectly why you were probably bouncing off the walls when you read that will!
Non-genealogists (like my husband and children) just don't understand, do they ...
