I have found out that my grt grt Grandmother had a child in 1849. she was married in 1853 in the Parish of St Thomas they were both living in Church St at the time of marriage. Her name was Ann Baylis and she married a George Day. Her child born in 1849 was a John Looker and the father was also John Looker (Solicitor). I have tried to find Ann and her son on the 1851 Census, but I can't seem to find them. (Ann D.O.B 1828). I would also like to find information on the Father if possible? . I found John on the 1861 Census living with his mother his name was John Looker Baylis Day. Would appreciate any help Nessie

ok here we are, the occupation is correct
1851 HO107/1730/414/15
No address, living Kidlington, Oxford.
John Looker 55 widower Attorney at Law, b Oxfordshire, St Mary Staining Sarah B dau 22 Richard B son 19 Fanny B.W dau 17 Elizabeth B dau 15 Lucy B dau 13 Thomas K.B son 12
I would hazzard a guess by all the middle names down as B that was his wifes maiden name, will see if they are around in 41.

Possibly Mary Ann Beckinsale, who married a John Looker 25 Dec 1824 Bampton, Oxford per IGI (extracted)

There's a John Looker BAYLISS registered Mar 1850 Strand 1 384 - presumably could have been born at the tail end of 1849. Why he's registered in London I don't know - thought we were looking for an Oxfordshire-born child

OK then - Meards Court is in Soho in central London. I've been looking in Oxford/Kidlington in 1851 - no wonder I couldn't find them!

Surely that must be him, those names are too much of a co- incidence , I had just spotted that also.
Perhaps as he was illegitimate she went to London to have the child.
Still cant see them in 51 though

Sorry my fault he was born 1849 but registered in 1850. I don't have a clue about Oxfordshire and it's where abouts, I live in Lancashire. I'm new to finding my family so I do tend to confuse people. Sorry.

Oh, that's a good find, Tanja
There's a Fanny Bayliss in St Thomas, Oxford, in 1841 with children:
Fanny Bayliss 33 John do 9 Emma do 7 Amelia do 5 Maria do 2
all born in county
HO107/891 folio 29 p9
No Ann with them, unfortunately. If this is the same family as in 1851 the children are a bit forgetful about their ages (or perhaps the enumerator has got Maria and Emma muddled up )
