Marriage in Winchester 1781
« on: Friday 03 December 04 10:51 GMT (UK) »

Hi all,

Is there someone out there with access to the parish records of St Maurice, Winchester?

I have Sarah MUSTCHIN/MUSTCHEN marrying Richard THOMAS on 25 August 1781.

Would like to know please Sarah's marital status, father, age, and where she was from if it's available please.

Failing that maybe a signpost to where I can access this information from Australia.

Hi Sandie,

Unfortunately, before 1837 (when civil registration began) much of the information you are asking for just did not appear in the parish registers.  It may include which parish the bride and groom came from, often it will just state 'of this parish'.  But it is unlikely to include her father's name and it won't include his occupation.  You should find out if she was a widow though.  If she was a minor and needed her father's consent, that should be recorded, provided she admitted her age.

So far I haven't found anything more than Phillimore's Marriages online and the information in that is just the bare bones.  Mustchen/Mustchin is an unusual name so may be the IGI can provide a reasonable lead here.

Thanks for that,
Can't seem to find much of anything really.

Will have to include this in my next trip to England.

Very hard to say...

At late stage all the ancestors I can account for were living in Sussex.
I can imagine they may have gone over into Kent or Hampshire but by my calculations Worcestor is a long way. Will have to look into this further. Thank you for your time
