Hi
One of my ancestors was called James Gallacher born 1811 in Donegal, married Mary Ann Warrington and moved to Scotland.
His father was called John Gallacher. I think he may have come from a place in Donegal called JordansTown or TorransTown. I have looked on a ma of Donegal and I cannot find any place called this.
Is John Gallacher any relation to your Gallachers ?
Do you know what / where the place in Donegal is ?
Cheers, Warren

Hi Elaine
Ok thanks, All i know is James Gallacher came from Donegal to Scotland and that i've got his father's name, John. James settled in Paisley and my family (I am a Gallacher) have been in Ayrshire ever since his son Daniel moved there. I'm currently in Glasgow though.
I thought it would be nice to find out where James was from originally in Donegal, where his father John lived, and to see if i can learn anything more from there.
Cheers, Warren

I'll have a look on the renfrewshire noticeboard. Cheers, Warren

Hi
I've seen the post on the renfrewshire noticeboard, and it looks like they are a different set of Gallachers to mine. They could however be related further back in time in Donegal.
Cheers, Warren

Elaine- civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864. If Isabella was born before this date there will be no birth certificate. Also, registration wasn't compulsory until 1870 and often births weren't registered then. The surname may be spelt differently such as Gallagher, O'Gallager, etc. Strabane is actually in County Tyrone not Donegal although as it's on the border it's possible the family lived in Co. Donegal but near Strabane and gave the details for the census that way.

Hi Elaine
The census records you've listed above are for my family and set of Gallachers. I am descended from James Gallacher and his wife Mary, and then from their son Daniel. James 's father was John Gallacher and came from Donegal. I've been informed that James came to Scotland in 1826, which i think might be a liitle early but he was in Scotland by 1837. Are they related to your set of Gallachers in any way ?
Cheers, Warren
