Ok thanks Elaine.
James Gallacher came to Scotland as I said in 1826 but John was still in Donegal and presumably the rest of his family if he had any other children, who would have been James's brothers and sisters, would still have been there. Your Gallachers are 30 years after James left for Scotland though. The thing is though, I think the Gc spelling of Gallacher wasn't very common in Donegal (compared to Gallagher), so there maybe something in that. I think that John's surname was spelt Gc even in Ireland, but maybe it was Gg over there - they do change the spelling quite frequently.
If i find out anything more about Gallachers in Donegal, i'll let you know as well
Cheers, Warren

Hi Elaine
I've just seen the birth certificate that you sent, thanks a lot for doing this.
I had seen a photocopy of this and that why i thought it said JordansTown or TorrensTown.
Looking again at it does look a bit like Portadown, but theres no Portadown in Donegal and it does definitely say Donegal after as well.
Portadown is in Northern Ireland as well.
Cheers, Warren

Hi,
I thought it said Jordanstown as well at first.
However, i've had another look at it close up and have compared the letters to the other writing on the page - the page looks like it was completed in the same had
I now think that the first letter is a P and the fourth and eighth letters are a T.
So I think that it now says Porterstown.
There's is a Porterstown in Ireland but I can't seem to find one in Donegal, so i'm still really much in the same situation.
Cheers, Warren
