Hi Kate
I don't see a William and Elizabeth Cook in Berkshire, but could this be your family in Dorney Buckinghamshire, very near Maidenhead?
Elizabeth Cook 30 Louisa Cook 10 William Cook 30 William Cook 17 John Hester 75
All born in county. The two Williams and John Hester are all Ag. Labs.

Hello again Kate
I've now seen your other thread, so know the family I posted yesterday is not correct!
I think I've found the right one now:
Wiiliam Cook 40 Carman Elizabeth Cook 40 Sarah " 15 John " 10 William " 10 Thomas " 6 Elizabeth " 6 Charles " 4
At Bridge Street, Maidenhead, Berkshire. All born in county.
The 1841 census generally rounds ages down to the nearest five, except for young children. John and William are probably not twins, although Thomas and Elizabeth may be! Incidentally, I didn't find them on Ancestry, but the Genealogist came up trumps this time.
Good hunting
Anne

Hi Fizzy A carman /carter/ carrier was drove a vehicle for delivering goods Driver of (horse-drawn) vehicles for transporting goods. Carmen were often employed by railway companies for local deliveries and collections of goods and parcels. Modern day van driver. Also sometimes someone who drove horse-drawn trams was called a Carman

Please excuse me asking Marmaduke but is it not the case that the 1841 census shows the Cooks at Bridge Street, Maidenhead, rather than Bray, which is just the parish? I may well be wrong, but worth asking the question in case any visitor from afar wastes precious time looking in Bray, as many have done before.

Hi Jill It seems it was found by Marmaduke on the Genealogist web site.
I am going to the UK very soon from Australia and will be visiting Maidenhead.
I think Bridge Street still exists
I also have found out William and Elizabeth Cook came to Australia in 1863 aged 60 and both died aged 80 in South Australia.
I havent been able to find them in the 1861 census so would appreciate a look up if possible.
I think there should only be William Elizabeth James Regards Kathryn

Hi Jill
My recollection is that they were mistranscribed (of course!) on ancestry as Cock. Let me know if you still can't find them and I will look up the reference. I'm on the wrong computer at present.

Hi Marmaduke, Have now found them thanks under Cock and have also reported to Ancestry.com
Kate, they are not on the 1861 census as Richard has said as they died in Australia. Does you ancestor stay here and leave later?

Hello again Kate
There is a William and Elizabeth Cook in Taplow in 1861. I don't know if they are yours, the birthplace of both is given as Cookham. Taplow is very near Maidenhead but in Buckinghamshire.
William Cook Head 63 Ag Lab Elizabeth Cook Wife 62
No specific address given in Taplow but between the Orkney (I think) Arms Hotel and Barge Farm.

Hello all William and Elizabeth and daughter Elizabeth (She married Daniel McKerry) came to Australia in 1863 so they no doubt would be on the 1861 census. Elizabeth 2 most likely married by then
There should be a James born 1844 approx
I am off next week so now I have a least a place Maidenhead to go to This is my Cook web site if anyone would like to take a look I have to update it slightly
