I am researching my Rose tree and have come to a brick wall.

My great grandfather was John Rose c1843 at Hungerford ( that could also be Little Hungerford, Hampstead Norris, Berks.)

He can be  found on the 1871 Census but not on any before then.

I  have a copy of his marriage certificate which states his father's name as William and John's wife was named Isabella Durban. 

I cannot find any entry for John Rose's birth/Baptism on any of the genealogy sites that I use.

Could anyone advise me what to do or where to look next please.

Hello Barbara.
I have wondered about this though he should have been a bit younger than 12 in 1851 though perhaps I should  explore this avenue.  He could not sign his name when he married in Hanwell yet in a year or two he was an engine driver.  He is a puzzle.

You could always contact Berks record office http://www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk/services/research.htm

and see if they can help (if you haven't already done so)

I couldn't find him in 1841 or 1861,
