Hi, I seem to have hit on a problem, I have William Robson Snowdon b 1842/1843 Hartlepool and have his parents as father John Snowdon b 1816 Coatham, Co Durham and Mother Elizabeth Robson no details.
Someone has now told me that Elizabeth is wrong and should be Jane ? does anyone have the resources to check this out so i could get a birth certificate for William, many thanks, Roger

How far is it to Bethlehem?

You don't need the mother's name to get William's birth certificate - the GRO reference is enough, although it's possible to add extra details such as father's name to make sure you have the right one.

Hi Roger,
It might be quicker to get the cert from Hartlepool reg office, the birth is listed at www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/search.php , you can see the details and either phone them or download the application from the website - they will usually also check it's the right one for you.

I am researching a John Snowden Robson, born in Whitby 1848. There is also a John Snowden Robson born 1890 in Hartlepool, Durham.
Does either of these names ring a bell?

baptism at st hilda's church in the ancient borough of hartlepool on 05 august 1842:
william robson, son of john snowdon a labourer and elizabeth robson.
address moor houses.

hartlepool did not have a register office in those days and came under stockton. birth cert is at hartlepool.

Hi All, many thanks for the info, I now have the correct certificate, and Elizabeth is correct.
The John Snowden Robson doesn't tally with my snowdon's at the moment, even though most seem to come from the Hartlepool area. once again thanks to all.
