1841/51 - Spalford (Newark) - Beaumont
« on: Wednesday 24 November 04 05:38 GMT (UK) »

I would really appreciate a lookup for the following Beaumont people.

1841
Thomas Beaumont (occupation is "wheelrighter" according to William's marriage certificate in 1866).

1851
Thomas Beaumont/Head/(as above)
William Beaumont/Son/(aged about 9-11) born Spalford

Sorry I haven't got more to go by.  William moved to Yorkshire by at least 1866 based on his marriage certificate.

Thanks,
Jola

Wow! Thank-you Heather B and Robin Hood.

I've been a busy bee since I received this information and have confirmed to my satisfaction that this is my family.

I actually found the christenings of the children in the IGI once I knew that Girton was a possibility and the names of William's siblings (except George).  Also I found William's birth in the IGI for Jun Q 1841 (there was another for Mar 1842 which was throwing me off base) but the six weeks old in the census isolated it for me.  I will order the certificate to confirm his mother's maiden name - thanks for the possible marriages and I may order his mother's death certificate too.

From later census information I have found that some of the brothers moved to Yorkshire like William.

Thomas is widowed again by 1871 (living with son John) and if it's not too much trouble Heather B could you please look up John (aged 22) in the 1851 census since I know he is still alive and still in Spalford.  He marries a Sarah but the children come a year or two after the census so he may still be single at that point.  If you don't have time that's fine.

I also found in IGI a christening of Thomas Beaumont in North Scarle 27/9/1799 with siblings and parents which should be him.  I think the 57 years old  in the 1851 census should be 50 or 51.  I also found a possible marriage for Thomas's parents in Pallot's marriage index.

Anyway I have come a long way from two names and an occupation so thank-you both.  Since its 2am now I should probably go to sleep, such is this addictive little hobby.

A couple more bits to file away.

Notts Marriage Index
John Beamont/Sarah Patchet North Clifton 30.4.1852

Notts Burial Index

Thomas Beaumont  75yrs,buried 15.10.1874 at Girton, resident of Spalford. This seems to tie in with your christening year of 1799

Hi again. I can tell you that John was definitely not in Spalford at census time. I have worked through the index for the area but he is either mistranscribed on there or he was the one Beaumont reference I couldn't find from the index!! Possibly working in a neighbouring village and returned after his marriage.
However I did come across someone who is maybe yours?

Thanks Robin Hood.  I'd say they are right.  From what I found on-line it looks like some of these places had a couple of hundred residents at best around these times so my odds are pretty good.
I also know that Thomas died between the 71 and 81 census (being 71 years in 1871) so that has to be a match.

Looks like if I ever get to England again, I'll be visiting these villages and scouring the graveyard at St Cecilias in Girton.

Heather B - thanks for trying, sorry it was a lost effort.  I think that Elizabeth Beaumont is probably mine because I have these records which are probably my family :

Robert Beaumont x Elizabeth Walker m.1798 North Scarle - Pallots MI
Children (IGI) of Robert Beaumont and Elizabeth ? born North Scarle
Thomas Beaumont Chr : 27/9/1799 (William's father)
George Beaumont Chr : 11/05/1803
Frances Beaumont Chr : 12/08/1804
Grace Beaumont Chr : 17/08/1806
Sarah Beaumont Chr : 1/07/1810

The 51 census age would have made her 21-26 at marriage which seems likely.

Thanks again,
Jola
