Hi there I have a possible relative, David WALLACE, who was shipped to Western Australia as a convict on the ship "Clara" in 1864. His trial was held in Perth Scotland on 3/10/1862 for robbery & assault and was given a term of 6 years...his age is given as 25. My question is this, is there any way I can find out any more personal info (e.g parent's names, where born) so that I can either eliminate or confirm his connection to my family?? Not sure whether government/court records on convicts are available anywhere but would appreciate any help or guidance. Cheers Annie

The National Archives of Scotland catalogue (www.nas.gov.uk) shows what appear to be the precognition and trial papers for this David Wallace. The Precognition contains the evidence and sworn statements assembled for the trial so you might be lucky and discover something of his background from them.
Thanks Isabel A very interesting site!! From the info I found (address & occupation), I think I can discount this David Wallace. Annie
