If this picture isn't too faded, can someone please try to clean it up?  Many thanks.

Hi, Mudge, Mike and Caz:  I went to bed last night wondering if I was going to get a reply and woke up a few minutes ago to find your brilliant work above.  My great grannie Lucretia thanks you for her restored pictures and so do I.  A couple of other generations of her decendants (who don't know that the photograph even exists) will be surprised and delighted to see your work.  Thanks for all of your time and efforts.

Geoff.

(P.S. I've already decided to buy my own graphics restoration software and give it a try.  Any suggestions for a nearly 80-year-old family historian?

I have been using Paintshop but I'm still learning, the others seem to use Photoshop Elements or CS. Paintshop I've used before for simple graphics but I've been following some tutorials to see if can actually do these restores properly  Grin This is only the  3rd one I've had the courage to post!
There is a freebee one called GIMP that you could try, someone posted a link a few days ago. Not tried it mysef yet.
Added some colour to this one, still practicing with that too! Hope you like it!  Grin Grin Grin

I really like it, jc.  Thanks for the suggestions and the colored version.   And thanks for picking mine as your practice piece.  Hope I can get to be as accomplished as you are.

Thank you Geoff, still learning and its very addictive!
Some of the software is very expensive, so do try one of the cheaper versions first to practice with.  I have found that googling Paintshop I have found many online tutorials and I just practiced with one bit at a time.  Learning how to take out creases etc, then brighten and sharpen.  Now I'm just learning how to colour. Read some of the other threads on here by the people who have been doing restoration alot longer, they have some good tips!

Hi geoff,

Try this, ideal for beginners plus there are several other things that may
interest you.   All free gratis no catches.  You may have to register I can't
remember. If you do you'll probably get offers on their latest software.
No big problem.  I used this software years ago and its ok for practicing
and getting used to the controls.   If you can download the manual which
takes you through things step by step, also look for the tutorials.
If you use it let me know how you get on.

Thanks, Tomkin.  Just look at the details in the dresses and the background!  You're going to contribute to my restoration delinquency...can't wait to get started.  Thanks for the links to free software.  Will read Cornish Pasty's post....

Hi, Mudge:  Don't know what happened but notification of your last post to me was received, but couldn't find it on the website.  Suddenly it popped up in the "send a message" window!  Anyway, thanks for the advice and the restored photograph.  Looks like I have some work to do....
